If I had a dime for every time I heard a nonprofit ED complain about their dysfunctional, disengaged board of directors\u2026I\u2019d probably have enough to buy a twin-engine jet!<\/p>\n

Board bashing is pretty much an Olympic sport in the nonprofit sector these days. EDs are always complaining about board members who are asleep at the switch, micromanaging, or abusing their power. Some even complain that their boards have zero connection to the work.<\/p>\n

But, it\u2019s like I always say, the board you have is the board you build<\/em>. So why then, don\u2019t nonprofit leaders build boards that are high-functioning, engaged, and excited to serve?<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s my hypothesis: Most nonprofit leaders don\u2019t actually know what a high-functioning board of directors even looks like<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
